We’re supporting our client, a leading equipment manufacturer of safety critical components based in Birmingham, who are looking for an Applications Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Applications Engineer will have experience of working within a Mechanical / Electrical Engineering environment, 3D CAD, concept design and manufacturing process awareness, customer management, maintaining and building relationships.

 

Responsibilities for Applications Engineer:

  • Through site visits within the UK & Europe and through remote support, liaise with customer engineering, service and quality departments to investigate and resolve application issues.
  • Maintain clear records of issues, details, actions and responsibilities to support successful commercial resolutions, maintain customer relations and protect the company brand.
  • Work with sales to develop enquires, capturing and consolidating into agreed requirements.
  • Develop outline concept models, independently or with design team, supported by necessary calculations and system schematics, and achieve sign off with the customer prior to detail design.
  • Conduct thermal calculations for new projects and investigations necessary for the correct validation / specification of components.
  • Identify all the activities required to complete the project, generating timing and resource plans across the teams and actions.
  • Generate test plans based on project requirements and to minimise reliability and warranty risk.
  • With support from the design mangers, coordinate detail design across the project teams, managing relevant reviews and internal design gateways to keep projects on time, budget and to specification.
  • Carry out and assist with the instrumentation of vehicles to facilitate validation tests of thermal performance, hydraulic performance and satisfactory commissioning.
  • Generate the documentation to support customers with installation, electrical integration, servicing, repair and parts identification.

 

About You:

  • An Engineering degree or HND with demonstrable experience.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in this type of industry.
  • Must be a good communicator both written and verbally and able to communicate with staff and customers at all levels.
  • A good listener, observant, enthusiastic about investigating and solving problems.
  • You have the ability to influence and negotiate with all levels.
  • Comfortable with a hands-on approach but also able to step back and see the overall picture.
  • Keen to face constant fresh challenges.
  • Computer literate, minimum competent in the use of MS Office – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good mechanical, electrical and electronic knowledge at an application level.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in an applications environment.
  • Confident with foreign travel and able to work outside the UK.
  • Driver’s license essential – must be prepared to drive to all UK sites and drive overseas (European mainland / North America).
