We’re supporting our client, a leading global metal forging company based in Streetsboro, Ohio who are looking for an Automation Specialist to join their growing team. The successful Automation Specialist will have experience of manufacturing with a focus on automation, networking, and data analytics/ data collection practices.

Job Summary:

As an Automation Specialist, you will be a member of the Automation team, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of automation solutions, with a primary focus on integrating a comprehensive barcode system throughout the facility. You will report to the Automation Manager and use a combination of IT expertise and electrical engineering knowledge to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities for automation within the facility and develop solutions to streamline operations, reduce manual labor, and improve data accuracy.
  • Design, develop, and implement a standardized barcode system to automate tracking and management of materials, inventory, and workflow processes.
  • Work with the Automation department to ensure integration of the barcode system with existing software and hardware systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues with automation equipment and systems to minimize downtime.
  • Design and implement electrical systems and controls required for automation projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Lead and manage automation projects from conception through implementation, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide training to staff on new automation systems and offer ongoing technical support to ensure smooth operation.
  • Collect and analyze data from automated systems to identify trends, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to find issues and initiate projects to remedy.
  • Must be able to work well in a team atmosphere as well as on your own.
  • Train personnel in proper use of all equipment.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule – early morning or late evening hours may be required based on job tasks.

 

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing with a focus on automation, networking, and data analytics/data collection practices.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQLs (Structured Query Language), experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), familiarity with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, and use of Microsoft applications.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, database management, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical colleagues.
