Commodity Buyer – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a leading global automotive manufacturer based in Banbury, who are looking for a Commodity Buyer to join their growing team. The successful Commodity Buyer will have experience of working in busy manufacturing purchasing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, register, challenge & process purchase requisitions in order to achieve best conditions for the company and conforming with appropriate operating procedures.
  • Where necessary support internal customers in obtaining specific or urgent requirements.
  • Secure early involvement in development of capital purchases through negotiation and benchmarking of supplier proposals or quotations.
  • Support the Assistant Purchasing Manager in the preparation and distribution of reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Manage a monthly MRO review.
  • Establish and maintain a process for managing, negotiating and renewing significant service contracts and rental or lease agreements.
  • Strive to achieve specific objectives as agreed with Purchasing Manager designed to support the delivery of business plan and the Commodity Buyers personal development goals.
  • Analyse spends and trends to identify cost reduction opportunities, targets, projects and timing.

  • Ensure compliance with Environmental & Health & Safety standards in line with current certification.
  • Comply with the General Risk Assessments.

  • Comply with COSHH Risk Assessments.
  • Report accidents and near misses.
  • Comply with the Lock out Tag out Procedure (where applicable).
  • Comply with the Safe System of Work documents.
  • Take appropriate actions in emergency situations.
  • Adhere to 5S processes and procedures.

Quality:

  • Raise quality care points.
  • Liaise with other departments regarding quality concerns.
  • Adhere to standardised working procedures.
  • Participate in quality checks and controls.
  • Adhere to quality care points.
  • Report repeat quality issues.

Timing:

  • Ensure all quality decisions are made considering risk to supply and escalate as required.
  • Report any issues or concerns to your line manager.

Cost:

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve departmental performance on safety, uptime, availability, maintenance, equipment modifications, plant, error proofing, technical systems and processes and cost down opportunities.
  • Participate in projects within the companies CIP scheme.
  • Taking fast action to reduce customer demerits and cost of quality.
  • Use consumables responsibly.

Specific Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of working in busy manufacturing purchasing environment preferred (min 5 years)
  • Assertiveness in face to face and telephone transactions
  • Confident negotiating style
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Awareness of importance of standard operating procedures
  • Driving License
  • Team player
  • CIPS professional qualification preferred (or equivalent)
