Design Engineer – Job Summary:
We’re supporting our client, a leading manufacturer based in Skokie, Illinois who are looking for a Design Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Design Engineer will have experience previous experience with 4-year degree.
Salary: $80,000 – $120,000+

Responsibilities:
- Forming rolls for all materials, for pre-cut and cut to length shapes as well as pre-punched parts and must be thoroughly knowledgeable regarding the requirements of designing roll tooling for pre-punched material.
- Prenotch tooling including flying as well as stationary tooling which may include gagged features for irregular hole patterns.
- Focus on machining, disassembling /reassembling, hand finishing.
- Flying cutoff tooling which will include shear (crop) type slug-less dies and blade type cutoff dies which may feature internal facility for part pickup.
- Cutoff tooling may also be post-punch dies in which punched features are produced by the cutoff die.
- Flying pickup devices to engage strip features imparted by the prenotch.
- Secondary dies for post rolling operations.
- Progressive stamping dies to produce parts ancillary to the rolled product.
- Must be well versed in providing costing estimates of roll forming tooling, material specifications, and equipment requirements including but not limited to usage of existing tooling which may be applied to the prospective work, new tooling which may be produced entirely in house, or designed in house and built by a contract vendor or entirely jobbed to the vendor. Estimates must utilize existing equipment as stock, when possible, modified if necessary, or purchased used or new if required.
- Quotations requiring outside purchase of tooling or equipment must incorporate reliable estimates of acquisition cost and lead time for delivery. Quotations must include estimates of set-up times and production rates. Any questions posed by sales personnel require timely responses.
- Must be capable of providing designs and schematic diagrams of circuitry required for any custom production applications as well as for equipment requiring modifications or for documentation of legacy equipment lacking OEM documents.
- All purchasing for tooling projects including tool steel, die components, outside vendor services, and required equipment is to be done in a timely manner to prevent any delays due to lack of needed materials. The engineering manager is responsible for the provision of supplies for all subordinate departments as well as the sourcing of any other items that may be required by production.
- This is an onsite position.
About You:
Requirements:
- Requires the use of advanced mathematics involved in the application of engineering principles and the performance of related practical operation, together with a comprehensive knowledge of the theories and practices of mechanical, electrical, chemical, or civil or like engineering field. The position requires a four (4) year degree of technical or university education.
- Proficiency with CAD
Desired:
- Some relevant manufacturing experience (Roll Forming, Steel)
- Efficient with Stratix software
- Proficient in MS Office
- Bilingual
- Ability to manage 20+ production employees
- Experience in machining practices and principles
- Ability to troubleshoot processes and equipment
- Conveys information with clarity and directness
