We’re supporting our client, a world leader in the metals industry with advanced, top-tier technology, based in Rotherham, who are looking for a Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing team.

Position Overview: As a Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll be a vital part of our operations. Your primary focus will be to provide electrical design to the Product Development, Manufacture, and After-sales functions of the business. Reporting to Design Manager, the job holder shall provide this technical support using a hands-on approach.

Responsibilities for Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Undertake all work activities safely, ensuring compliance with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • To always act in a professional manner to develop designs which are aligned with the principles, strategy and goals of the business and expectations of the customer.
  • Work to timescales with a production system to allow projects to complete to plan.
  • To review requirements documentation for each contract as it arises, ensuring that objectives and technical specifications are clearly defined and understood for SCM, In-Chain and Rollscan products.
  • Generate electrical schematics, bills of material and production documents.
  • Actively participate in the whole life cycle of an engineering project, providing electrical system expertise to ensure the successful delivery of the product.
  • Liaise with purchasing, production and other design functions and provide regular updates.
  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers.
  • Remotely support where necessary testing and site commissioning activities.
  • Where necessary, compile training manuals and facilitate Customer training sessions.

About You:

The jobholder shall:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; complemented by relevant industrial experience. However, those with at least an HNC qualification that can demonstrate comparable academic and industry experience will also be considered.
  • Hold 18th Edition certification.
  • Be an experienced user of AutoCAD and Inventor and be generally computer literate.
  • Be comfortable working in a cross functional team offering expertise and creating shared solutions.
  • Be familiar and proficient at electrical schematic definition & generation, with a demonstrable record of applied electrical engineering practices.
  • Be highly motivated, well-organised and be flexible to support Customer site activities where needed.
  • Have a good understanding of machinery safety principles, and a positive attitude to good health & safety working practices, including risk assessments, correct use of PPE and “doing the right thing”.
  • Possess good data and analytical skills.
  • Have good attention to detailed required for ‘right first time’ production ethos.

Ideally the job holder will:

  • Have an understanding of PLC’s and control systems.
  • Have experience or understanding of defining and developing electrical systems for bespoke equipment.
  • Wish to progress and develop within the wider design team.
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in industry.

  • 35-hour week, with 1pm finish on Fridays.
  • Flexible start / finish times: start from 7am up to 9:30am, finish from 3:30pm onwards.
  • 25 days of holidays + 2 additional company days (Tuesdays following late May BH and August BH)+ all Bank Holidays. Fridays can be taken using a half day holiday by adjusting working hours Monday – Thursday.
