We’re supporting our client, a high precision manufacturer of power transmission products based in Westfield, NY who are looking for an Engineering Manager to join their growing team. The successful Engineering Manager will have significant experience with engineering software systems – especially Windchill/Creo.

The role is quite unique in that it allows the individual to provide leadership from a strategic basis and to truly mould and transform the engineering function.

The candidate will have close interaction with senior individuals within the business. As such they will be expected to contribute heavily to the tactical and strategic direction of the business. They must possess a professional maturity commensurate with interacting with the most senior managers in the business.

The ideal candidate will possess a natural feel as to how factories operate coupled with a deep understanding and history of creating designs and production models for the shop floor to implement.

They will take a leadership role in ensuring that company standard processes and designs are rigorously implemented. The individual must develop robust knowledge of the company standard Engineering software systems. An individual possessing an ambitious, driven, well-reasoned approach to matters will thrive in this opportunity.

This position functions as a liaison between the company’s Health and Safety, Commercial, Purchasing, and Finance departments. It is a focal point among all departments, as such the candidate will be heavily relied upon by their colleagues. They must therefore effectively communicate and foster a team-oriented approach to meeting customer and production requirements in the most efficient manner possible.

The role is based in Westfield, New York and reports to the President. The role has two direct reports in the engineering department.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates activities of the engineering department to design, manufacture and test components and products.
  • Designs new products and components, modifies existing designs and improves production techniques.
  • Confers with management, production and commercial personnel to determine engineering feasibility and effectiveness.
  • Utilizes Windchill/Creo software to provide solid modelling, drawing creation and revisions.
  • Utilizes the M3 ERP system to create item masters, product structures and revisions.
  • Designs, scopes and develops new components and production drawings.
  • Coordinate with other departments and production colleagues to identify and resolve issues regarding production time, bills of materials, routings and other information to ensure data integrity.
  • Develop and review data for control of planned outputs, budget spending and desired efficiency.
  • Create strategic vision to re-design plant including machine profile, automation and robotics, plant layout and required capital equipment. Then project manage strategic vision to reality/completion.
  • Direct the review of engineering related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) against performance standards. Conduct analysis to understand variances and identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

 

About You:

  • Significant experience with engineering software systems – especially Windchill/Creo.
  • Skilled in the use of ERP systems most especially production set up, analysis and data integrity.
  • Experience in the production of highly engineered products requiring complex assemblies utilizing CNC and other machinery.
  • Highly refined critical reasoning skills employing a logical and analytical approach to work.
  • Meticulous organizational skills with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • In-depth understanding and application of working to ISO standards.
  • Deep sense of ownership and pride in performance and impact on company’s success.
  • Excellent relationship management skills demonstrated by a robust ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams.
  • Able to resolve complex, stressful or difficult issues with calmness and diplomacy.
  • Great interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive engineering supervisory experience.
  • Expertise with engineering software (Windchill Creo) a must have.
  • Exceptional experiential knowledge working within a structured, fully integrated ERP environment with finite scheduling.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft suite of products.
