Job Description

Maintenance Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Whilst working on machines time should be taken to assess the condition and identify any up and coming problems which should be documented and rectified
  • Keep work area (de-blocking) stations clean and tidy
  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout both IGS and Lens Online in areas worked on
  • Maintenance office to maintain 5s standards
  • Emergency call out cover – 24/7 emergency response and support – Occasionally required
  • Keep up to date with current regulations
  • Reduce down-time and increase efficiency
  • Participate in ‘on call rota’ and different shifts when required to cover holidays and absences
  • Call response and efficiency in dealing with breakdowns and servicing
  • Diagnose and repair machine faults on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and modern safe working practices utilising safety lock out procedures
  • Ensure all machines are running at all times and respond immediately to equipment breakdowns
  • Maintain and repair lens coating and processing machinery.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Complete jobs in priority of disruption to the business output
  • Carry out TPM and PPM work and calibration of machinery
  • Ensure all tanks are cleaned out at schedules times or as requested
  • Regular stock takes are to be carried out and used parts to be ordered
  • Ensure all records are kept up to date and use computerised system to report details of breakdowns and management of spares stock.
  • On completion of all jobs, ensure the equipment is in a safe working condition and the working environment is clean and tidy with all guarding properly in place.
  • Ensure all scheduled service tasks are carried out on time

About You:

  • Open communication with Shift and Section Leaders to ensure requirements for the successful running of the shift are met
  • Communicate progress effectively to Shift Supervisors and Team Leaders
  • Attending stand up meetings to report on any progress or changes regarding the workload and priorities of the maintenance team
  • Supporting other team members with their workload as and when required, keeping teamwork at the forefront of every activity
  • Time served Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with good electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Good working knowledge of single and three phase power supplies, machines, and systems.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC drives and conveyor systems.
  • Conversant with PLC and control gear systems.
  • PLC fault finding experience.
  • Experience of maintaining a wide range of equipment across a process manufacturing facility.
  • Competence in reading circuit diagrams electrical and pneumatic.
  • Good working knowledge of pneumatic systems and basic hydraulics.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations, in particular those relating to maintenance/engineering.
  • Experience of working under own initiative whilst ensuring good levels of reporting.
  • Ability to use effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a logical and systematic manner and prioritise workload.

Desirable Qualifications

  • IEE 18th Edition Regulations.
  • City and Guilds Electrical Testing and Inspection.
  • Level 3 BTEC Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering
  • City and Guilds Mechanical Engineering
  • City and Guilds Electrical Engineering
  • City and Guilds Electrical Installation
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical engineering
