Maintenance Engineer – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a leading global Automotive equipment manufacturer based in Telford, who are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Maintenance Engineer will have experience of PPM & PLC’s.

Responsibilities:

Safety & Environmental

  • Read, understand, follow and sign for all Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work and 3s procedure for maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all environmental procedures are adhered to including segregation waste disposal and COSHH.
  • Identify and escalate any machine equipment or process away from standard operation.
  • Identify and escalate any activity that had the potential to harm or cause damage.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained to Company procedures and is compliant with British Standards before and after any work is carried out.

Quality

  • Understand and demonstrate a “Quality First” philosophy ensuring all work carried out on machines does not affect product quality.
  • Liaise with manufacturing and production engineering departments when quality problems occur and ensure requests are actioned.

Delivery

  • Carry out calendar and monthly preventative maintenance (PM) requests from schedules and frequencies on required machines, processes and assembly lines.
  • Perform breakdown maintenance activity to improve machine availability.
  • Liaise with other departments to identify and implement equipment and process Kaizen activities to improve availability, cycle time, changeover, Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and quality.
  • Complete maintenance requisitions that include red tag and blue tag plus safety requisitions.
  • Use the MTAS system to record work carried out and to analyse breakdown data for Kaizen activity.

Cost

  • Continuously look to implement cost down opportunities.
  • Access the viability of repair first rather than fit new parts from stores.
  • Ensure all items used from stores are booked out and job number allocated.

Human

  • Ensure 5a activity is carried out on all tasks undertaken including the work areas and hot corners.
  • At shift changeover share all relevant information with opposite shift members who may carry on the task.
  • Contribute to your own self-development to ensure your knowledge is at the appropriate level.
  • Utilise effective communication across all functions.

About You:

Essential

  • Recognised time served apprenticeship to City and Guilds or Professional Vocational Qualification in Electrical Engineering discipline.
  • In depth knowledge or PLC and computerised control systems and interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of high volume production equipment, processes and assembly lines.
  • In depth knowledge of Servo Control systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience of working on AC & DC voltages from 5 to 415 volts and 3 phase.
  • In depth knowledge of robot programming and repair skills.
  • Ability to set up machine components to a very fine tolerance to ensure product quality.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with different cultures and utilise colleagues within the working environment to achieve outcomes.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Japanese machinery and systems.
  • Previous experience of the automotive manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation for machinery e.g. PUWER, LOLER etc.
  • MEWP licence or experience of working at height.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of vacuum systems.
