Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Strive for continuous productivity / efficiency improvements across the full spectrum of our manufacturing equipment.
  • Recommend and implement both engineering and procedural improvements so as to achieve our desired result of both enhanced productivity and machine efficiencies.
  • Will promote the availability of historical technical data
  • At the request of the engineering manager will be involved in engineering CAPEX projects, this may entail some travel.
  • Have a broad understanding of and promote Health & Safety practises denoted within in our Health & Safety Policy Document
  • Have broad understanding of manufacturing within a Quality Management System {BRC} and how this will effect the engineering department and their staff.
  • Will advise the engineering supervisor/manager of any training requirements they perceive are necessary for both individual members of staff or as a department, obviously with a clear focus on the benefits to be attained
  • Under the guidance of the engineering supervisor/manager will establish a broad understanding of the economics of our business so as to ascertain how their decisions will affect our overall profitability.
  • Will establish a good team ethic between the respective shifts with technical information flowing freely within the department.
  • Will promote the flow of technical information to all production staff.
  • Will have the ability to operate ALL production lines, necessary when performing running adjustments.
  • Embrace a diverse approach to all engineering duties, utilisation of lathes, milling machines, grinders, all hand power tools, welding & fabrication {MIG & Oxy/Acetylene} this list is not exhaustive.
  • Will be our first line of action for any emergency repairs concerning the fabric of our buildings, have the ability to “make safe” until recognised tradesmen can be utilised.
  • New machinery installations, working with external contractors, removing machinery by crane and ultimately have the ability to locate, level and rebuild in our manufacturing facility.
  • Engineering staff are also utilised for more technical aspects of product changes, this will involve automatic case packing equipment, poly wrapping machines, Kraft wrap over wrap and banding equipment, etc after such changes it is essential the engineer concerned initiates running adjustments so as to ensure optimum machine efficiency can be attained, this will involve operating our conversion equipment in conjunction with our operating staff.
  • MUST adopt a safety conscious approach to all duties, in particular when removing heavy rollers/equipment whilst utilising forklift trucks or overhead cranes, ensure our un-skilled production staff are not exposed to danger
  • Engineering staff will be utilised as and when production staff have exhausted all their knowledge to ensure our converting equipment is manufacturing to our desired standard and efficiency. Engineers are our skilled labour and will be required to assist in a live manufacturing environment to ensure these goals are attained.

  • FLT & IPAF licences.
