We’re supporting our client, a leading Injection Moulding manufacturer based in Peterborough, who are looking for a Mould Tool Designer to join their growing team. The successful Mould Tool Designer will have experience of Injection Mould Tooling, 3D modelling and design activities.

Position Overview: As a Mould Tool Designer, you’ll be a vital part of the tooling team, ensuring the seamless functioning of our equipment and facilities. Your primary focus will be tools designing and 3D modelling, contributing to efficiency and productivity.

Responsibilities for Mould Tool Designer:

  • To develop, from initial sketches and/or design briefs, fully detailed 3D models using SolidWorks, which fully comply with requirements in terms of appearance, cost, functionality and adherence to British, European & International standards, applying original-thinking & ingenuity where at all possible, within timescales required and allowing for manufacturing complexities or considerations.
  • To design plastics injection moulding tools to a good standard using industry recognized components.
  • Occasional travel may be needed.
  • Liaise with all relevant personnel within the company to progress designs as needed.
  • To perform full multi-mode stress analysis of 3D models using SolidWorks’ Simulation package,
  • providing recommendations of likelihood of failure and suggested improvements where necessary to
  • the project manager/originator so informed decisions can be made as to next-steps.
  • To create, from 3D models, fully detailed, professional and clear 2D engineering drawings that can be understood internationally.
  • To provide reduced-detail “Sales” drawings upon request and in a timely fashion.
  • To amend existing 2D CAD drawings where required using .dwg/f editing software (e.g. AutoCAD, DWG Editor, Draft Sight).
  • To research new materials, applications, methods of manufacture and applicable British/European/International standards where necessary to enhance design activities.
  • To advise and/or recommend, based on prior knowledge and/or experience, methods of design, materials, construction, and suitability for manufacture and economy on all new or existing product designs.
  • To offer advice from a technical perspective on quality issues and queries from other departments.
  • To assist in testing of products as & when required.
  • To assist/mentor colleagues where necessary.
  • To demonstrate commercial astuteness and awareness of changing business needs and market/customer priorities at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably requested to the best of your ability.

About You:

  • Desirable – experience with Solidworks
  • Previous experience in a related position
  • Knowledge of Injection Moulding
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D designs and modelling
  • Strong Stakeholder communication
