Operations Manager – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a leading global distributer of frozen food based in Whitchurch, Shropshire, who are looking for an Operations Manager to join their growing team. The successful Operations Manager will have experience of working within a warehouse or distribution centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership for all nightshift activity & employees across site
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, monthly departmental targets / key performance measures are being achieved through the supervisor team
  • Ensure warehouse performance is on track, managing & supporting any underperformance with the Warehouse Supervisors, along with solutions to rectify position
  • Work closely with the Warehouse Planning Manager to ensure overall labour capacity is in line with forecasted handling volumes & value-added services
  • Provide short & long term solutions for labour challenges, ensuring correct skill mix is in place and in line with budget
  • Recommend cost effective solutions to drive best utilisation labour across site and justify any longer-term efficiencies that require investment
  • Ensure all shift briefs are carried out, capturing feedback for combined zone CI initiatives
  • Oversee all agreed strategic plans (H&S, Technical, Audits, CI) and ensure each zone is actively working in line/towards them
  • Ensure all employees are fully trained and consistently operating in line with SOP’s; challenge nonconformance as appropriate
  • Manage all training requirements within the team (first aid, food safety etc.) and ensure all MHE licenses are ‘live’ and refresher training is planned and prioritized accordingly.
  • Conduct weekly performance review meetings by providing information on performance to date, potential future performance risks and making recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure all employees understand their part to play in the operation to help drive engagement and create a strong team environment. Provide clarity on role expectations and all working practices & policies and take full accountability for all the teams’ actions.
  • Encourage open communication throughout the team to understand any potential risks or opportunities. Provide constant feedback on the positives, whilst acting on and supporting any feedback gained from the team.
  • Recognise, develop, and nurture talent within the team. Actively coach and mentor any identified employees to best position for future roles.
  • Ensure full compliance in relation to Health & Safety in the workplace. Identify risks and own corrective actions.
  • Full ownership for fire safety and evacuation on site.
