Senior Automation Engineer – Job Summary:
We’re supporting our client, a leading manufacturer of outdoor power products based in County Durham, who are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Senior Automation Engineer will have experience of NPI, automation and programming PLCs.

Responsibilities:
- Concept design of equipment to manufacture Robotic lawnmowers.
- Specification, Control and purchase of Automation equipment needed in the manufacturing process.
Including Justifications for project costs and payback, RFQ’s and supplier selection. - Continuous improvement of all production equipment resulting in increased efficiency and improved Overall equipment effectiveness.
- Working in a team collaborating in new product introductions and design for automatic manufacture.
- Ensure all equipment is UKCA marked with all the necessary documentation, and manufacturing and maintenance have all necessary training and information.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- The ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- The ability to evaluate and embrace the latest technology.
- Collaborate with Quality and Product support to root cause analyse and solve production issues.
- Collaborate with production to identify and assist with efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with R&D and the New Product Introduction team to ensure the new product industrialisation process is supported by Engineering in terms of product costing, product build design. Design for Automatic assembly and all associated equipment requirements.
- Promote safe working through well documented risk assessment, method statements and training.
About You:
- Good communicator, both verbal and written
- Good understanding and experience in CE or UKCA and PUWER marking of Equipment built in-house or purchased.
- A good understanding of Robotics
- Siemens PLC programming including Profinet devices
- Understanding of lean manufacturing techniques
- Either a relevant degree, or a number of years’ experience in Engineering.
- A sound knowledge of Excel; Power Point & Word
- Good time management & planning skills
- Able to work collaboratively and able to demonstrate good leadership skills. Coaching and developing more junior team members.
- Able to demonstrate a “What can I do attitude”
- Prepared to travel, if required
