Senior Tooling Engineer – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a leading global Automotive Systems manufacturer based in Sunderland, who are looking for a Senior Tooling Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Senior Tooling Engineer will have experience of Injection Moulding, NPI and an understanding of Mould shop processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for NPI including new equipment / tool introduction and implementation, integration projects, special projects etc.
  • Ensure process equipment performance and standards achieve the measured targets and ensure that changes are recorded in relevant documents (Control Plans, Visual Aids etc.)
  • Ensure that methods devised for reduced set-up time, simplified fixture exchange and universal tooling improve flexibility and balance flow of the production processes, allowing efficient production in reduced lot sizes.
  • Improves process through-put by identifying and eliminating sources of machine / tool downtime and reliability problems. Works with production and maintenance to develop improvements.
  • Prepares labour/manning projections and tooling needs, performing Manufacturing feasibility reviews and FMEA’s.
  • Leads Pilot builds and NMI (New Model Introductions) to ensure all new products are designed for manufacture and assembly.
  • Leads PSO’s (Process Sign Off’s) ensuring the process is efficient and capable of delivering customer expectations.
  • Develops and approves precise operator work guidance, equipment operating and set-up instructions to ensure proper operation and maximum performance.
  • Any other assignment within the scope of the job role as defined by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the work of the Technical Personnel within the Mold Shop within the Continuous Improvement Teams.
  • Responsible for the initial training of the production line management and skill trainers relating to new methods and equipment.
  • Coaches and supports the Mold shop team.
  • Carries out Performance Appraisals and Training Needs Analysis for staff.
  • Maintains a safe and friendly work environment through the improvement of procedures for working practices
