Shift Lead – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a global packaging and containers manufacturing company based in Winsford, who are looking for a Shift Lead to join their growing team. The successful Shift Lead will have experience of managing staff performance, machines, and process and quality performance.

Respomsibilities:

  • Be the standard bearer for all Health, Safety and Environmental standards by proactively challenging any non-compliance, non-standard conditions, and behaviours on your shift team and across the business.
  • Using the Standard Work Tasks, agreed and monitored with the Manufacturing Manager, Lead the shift to exceed performance targets against defined KPI’s.
  • For each shift, co-ordinate and decisively manage Lead Operators and Operators along with coordinating activities of resource including IMM specialist, Process Specialists, Mould Specialist, to exceed performance targets for that shift.
  • Develop and mentor the team to achieve their potential and deliver business goals.
  • Lead in maintenance and improvement of health, safety, environment, quality, 5S and asset care ensuring adherence to process and schedules.
  • Manage labour to equal or better documented labour standards within the standard cost price of product ensuring any issues are managed through the concession process.
  • Own and update cost efficiency KPI’s (such as BOS or equivalent) and act accordingly to achieve targets.
  • Lead SAMs Level 2 meeting, driving the meeting to the defined meeting agenda, prioritizing the team’s actions for that shift against KPI’s
  • Support, coach and develop Lead Operators in running of their cells.
  • Support, coach and develop Level 1 meetings led by Lead Operators to achieve highest standard against the Level 1 audit criteria.
  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement through encouraging and empowering the team to bring suggestions.
  • Support the development of team members in continuous improvement idea generation as individuals or as part of the team ensuring feedback is given in a timely manner.
  • Ensure competence requirements for operational tasks are identified and documented in the competence matrix and training plans are generated and delivered.
  • Drive and support the generation and delivery of action plans identified from Kaizen and other improvement events.
  • Manage behaviours to support flexibility of the workforce and promote upskilling and cross-skilling across departments in accordance with competence and skills matrix to deliver integrated goal alignment.
  • Manage day to day priorities in line with production plan requirements.
  • Co-ordinate shift activities of all personnel on your shift, including technical disciplines (Process Specialist, Mould Specialist, IMM Technician), Lead Operators, Operators and other operations support staff as agreed with Manufacturing Manager and associated department heads.

About You:

Job Skills:

  • An operational knowledge working with an ERP/ MRP package
  • Ability to manage production team to achieve plan & targets
  • Must have an operational understanding of the process from Mould shop to warehouse to enable the coordination of resources to manage downtime & quality
  • Must have the ability to operate, read & interpret quality measuring equipment to a level that allows the management of adherence to process
  • Must have the ability to analyse data from various sources to produce performance reports and improvement programs with financial impact to business linked to plan
  • Good knowledge of Assembly workflow techniques, automated jigs and assembly fixtures
  • Excellent leadership skills, able to coach and direct others including but not limited to Process Specialists, Mould Specialists, IMM technicians, Lead Operators, Operators, FLT and Material Handlers
  • Ability to interrogate data capture systems for quality and performance
