Supplier Quality Engineer – Job Summary:

We’re supporting our client, a leading global components manufacturer based in Worcester who are looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Supplier Quality Engineer will have experience of supplier development or supplier quality assurance. Expert in 1st tier automotive supplier quality requirements (PPAP, APQP, SPC, 8D).

Responsibilities for Supplier Quality Engineer:

  • This role is to ensure APQP activities are carried out, PPAP submissions are made and correct, support suppliers to enable the service, quality, cost and reliability objectives are met and maintained.
  • This role will be closely aligned with engineering and supply chain functions but will sit within the Quality team.
  • Supplier performance measurement and improvement activities are key functions of this role. Working closely with the vendors to ensure total cost of supply is managed effectively with a cost benefit to the company.
  • Management of supplier quality and smooth integration to the business with no disruption to customers is essential for this role. Where local sources are undefined, work within the company policy and compliance to secure a stable alternative to the current source.
  • This role will be responsible for SAP and BI reports, taking preventive and corrective actions, defining/ developing new processes, defining special characteristics of a product/ process, instructions to stop production/ shipment if any non- conformities are detected.

 

Overview:

  • Maintain Current Supplier base: Maintain an up-to-date supplier database covering all current stated business requirements upon supply chain. Supplier relationships are retained such as to keep records by service/ product supplied maintained with high levels of accuracy and reliability. Work with Quality teams and Supply Chain teams to maintain supplier approval and ongoing performance evaluation. Maintain and improve supplier relationships through regular face to face meetings.
  • Supplier Assessment: Conduct supplier surveys to evaluate supplier quality systems, technical and process capability, capacity based on quality, cost and delivery requirements within Europe. Support facility supplier performance reviews and undertake actions to resolve issues.
  • New Vendor Selection & Audit:  Develop new supplier relationships where necessary and ensure selection is made following the key criteria and conformance to TS 16949. Complete supplier Audits, adopting the audit process and identify any areas for improvement. Identify alternative sources to current vendors to achieve localized supply base.
  • Resource of Suppliers: Complete all necessary actions with regards to transferral of supplier s including Part submission review and approval, Engineering Drawings review, Tooling and equipment (asset) transfer, PPAP approval. Support the direct savings initiative lead by the EU Purchasing Manager.
  • Supplier Mfg Process Development: Evaluate and approve supplier manufacturing process including tooling design/ manufacturing process control, quality improvement to achieve high quality, reasonable cost and on time delivery.
  • New Product Introduction:  Support Supplier development by undertaking supplier manufacturing process audits and monitoring performance during new product introduction. Management of supplier related quality activities from project conception through to post SOP. Publication of Launch Readiness Review to demonstrate project status and ensure associated risks are identified.
  • Supplier Quality Assurance:  Analyze supplier performance both in conjunction with QA personnel and at supplier premises. Negotiates with supplier to find acceptable solutions to problems and supports resolution of corrective action requests. Statistical tools to be applied to understand and resolve issues by tackling root cause of problems. Interface with Facility QA personnel to support problem escalation and resolution.

About You:

  • University degree in mechanical engineering or quality (preferred)
  • Fluent in English – Written and verbal
  • 3-5 years’ experience with supplier development or supplier quality assurance. Expert in 1st tier automotive supplier quality requirements (PPAP, APQP, SPC, 8D).
  • A clear and practical understanding of the use of quality improvement methodology such as SPC, Six Sigma, Poka-yoke, lean manufacturing etc
