Tool & Die Machinist – Job Summary:
We’re supporting our client, a leading global Automotive manufacturer based in Telford, who are looking for a Tool & Die Machinist to join their growing team. The successful Tool & Die Machinist will have experience of Injection Machining processes, Mould Tooling and CNC controlled machines.

Responsibilities for Tool & Die Machinist:
- To ensure all machining processes (CNC, EDM, EWC, milling, Turning etc.) used are within current legislation and DMUK safety guidelines.
- Exhibit product knowledge & customer expectations.
- Assist with repair and maintenance of Press and Mould tools to specified drawing data supplied by customer or parent company.
- Actively participate in departmental quality circles and assist if required in cross functional quality circle activities.
- Communicate inter-departmentally.
- Understand and promote the company’s “Quality First” philosophy ensuring all current tool/die does not affect product quality.
- Carry out daily inspections where required i.e. machine guard, emergency stop.
- Work to and achieve specified drawing tolerances – jigs, fixtures, breakdowns.
- Contain and rectify customer quality concerns internal and external.
- Work to precision design tolerances demanded by Company Press and Mould Dies.
- Ability to set and use all CNC controlled machines to their full capacity (EWC, EDM, CNC Miller, Cylindrical Grind and CNC Lathe).
- Liaise with production engineering, manufacturing and maintenance for all tooling or breakdown issues.
- Adhere to department and company targets including delivery achieve on jig tool & die requisitions and breakdown reduction on press and mould tools.
- Complete work to tolerance and quality required.
- Recommend in house/outsource options to meet company needs.
About You:
Essential
- Recognised time served apprenticeship or other relevant qualification.
- Knowledge of Press (Progression) and Mould (multi impression) tooling including design and functionality.
- Have a logical approach to problem solving.
- Experience with the main types of CNC machines i.e. Wire Erosion (EWC), Electric Discharge (EDM) and 3 axis Machine Centre.
- Read and understand engineering drawings.
- Recognise 1st and 3rd angle methods of projection.
- Understand geometrical tolerance symbols and how to apply them to inspection or machining.
- Produce own drawings from instructions or samples.
- Basic understanding of relevant HSE legislation – PUWER, LOLER, and relevant British Standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Ability to support and communicate with other associates within own and other departments.
Desirable
- Professional or vocational qualification in Maintenance Management (CMI Level 3, NVQ 2)
- Experience of automotive manufacturing standards.
- Experience of Japanese Manufacturing culture and techniques.
