We’re supporting our client, a global, leading metal manufacturer based in Uttoxeter, who are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join their growing team.
 
Job Summary: As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for plant machinery and equipment runs smoothly for the manufacturing and production departments.  Your work will be either preventative, repair, testing or emergency maintenance and prioritised in accordance with production workload and the needs of the maintenance requirements of the business.
 
About You:

  • Skilled in assembly, fitting, and mechanical maintenance of production machinery, conveyors, and fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge of bearings, couplings, chains, belts, pulleys, and gearboxes, including installation and alignment.
  • Ability to strip and rebuild gearboxes and drive units where necessary.
  • Understanding of lubrication systems and mechanical wear diagnostics.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting pneumatic systems, including compressors, actuators, solenoid valves, FRLs, and regulators.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic power units and cylinders, including checking for leaks, replacing seals, and monitoring pressure settings.
  • Ability to read and interpret pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
  • Familiar with MIG/TIG welding sets
  • Ability to maintain welding jigs, fixtures, ensuring safe electrical and gas supply integrity.
  • Basic welding or fabrication skills advantageous for small repairs or prototype builds / jigs & fixtures
  • Proven experience with single-phase and three-phase systems, including distribution boards, control panels, isolators, contactors, and overload protection.
  • Competent in safe isolation, fault-finding, and testing electrical circuits and components.
  • Understanding of machine safety interlocks, emergency-stop circuits, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Experience wiring and commissioning electric motors, inverters (VFDs), and motor-control circuits.
  • Knowledge of sensors, limit switches, solenoid valves, and relay logic (PLC knowledge is desirable).
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant health & safety and IET wiring regulations
  • Perform basic electrical fault diagnosis and repairs on plant equipment and machinery
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of electrical components and systems
  • Conduct routine electrical safety checks and inspections in line with regulatory standards
  • Replace or repair wiring, sensors, switches, and control panels as required
  • Collaborate with external electrical contractors when advanced support is needed
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficient with hand tools, test meters, and basic machine tools.
  • Competent in routine preventative maintenance and breakdown response on a wide range of manufacturing machinery.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, cutting, and rotational moulding equipment (desirable)
