We’re supporting our client, a leading food manufacturer based in Carteret, New Jersey who are looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join their growing team. The successful Maintenance Mechanic will have mechanical experience and be able to us Computerized Maintenance Management System.
 
Job Summary:

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you’ll be responsible for plant maintenance and facility related activities on a daily basis. This includes equipment and building repairs, capital projects and interaction with outside contractors. Task completion and repairs must be timely, professional, and all work must be done with a focus on safety, quality, productivity and cost savings opportunities.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Perform the timely repair of equipment to keep production running to meet customer service expectations. Performs tasks in a cost-effective manner. Coordinates activities to be sure that work performed is timely, professional, clean, neat and safe. Keeps supervision up to date.
  • Plant maintenance includes but is not limited to: plumbing, electrical (low & high voltage), mechanical, painting, and cleaning. It includes, but is not limited to, the repair, maintenance, and installation of the following:
  1. Industrial process: spray driers, powders blenders, pumps, distillation equipment, percolators, mixers, motors, seals, heat exchangers, material handling equipment, filling equipment, etc.
  2. Mechanical process: exhaust fans, motors, boilers, water filtration, air compressors, hot water heaters, etc.
  3. Electrical processes: VFDs, PLCs, relays, starters, low voltage controls, etc.
  • Depending on skills, mechanic may be asked by supervision to focus more in specific disciplines- electrical, mechanical, pipe fitting, welding, soldering, etc. May need to lift objects up to 50lbs, climb ladders and work in confined areas.
  • Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) system to monitor, schedule, and document all preventative and reactive repair work orders. Prioritizes maintenance work orders. Works with supervision to ensure program provides a proper schedule to maintain all critical equipment. Makes repairs as needed and identifies improvements required.
  • Use BMS system to ensure all HVAC & mechanical equipment is running at peak performance.
  • Maintain boilers and comply with inspection requirements.
  • Work on new projects. Prepare areas for new processes and new equipment. Install new equipment. Participate in project testing and hand off to users.
  • Assist in the coordination of third-party contractor activities, including repairs, inspections, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Support and participate in Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices training, demonstrate teamwork and a customer-focused attitude. Participate in audits on request.

About You:

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Must have good judgment and decision-making abilities. Demonstrates teamwork with a customer-focused attitude.
  • Must follow and adhere to local, OSHA and GMP requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, coordinate spending and maintain a capital budget.
  • Must be able to use Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical control panels with low and high voltage.
  • High school graduate. Driver’s license. Minimum 5+ years demonstrated mechanical work experience. Knowledge of flavor production, food processing, spray drying, extractions, and distillations a plus.
  • High Pressure Black Seal Boiler license a plus.
  • Must be able to cope with fast paced, high-pressure, ever-changing aspects of the job, which includes common sense, and meeting of company goals.
