We’re supporting our client, a leading packaging manufacturer based in Baltimore, Maryland who are looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their growing team. The successful Maintenance Technician will have experience as a Plant Engineer in a food/beverage, manufacturing/ production industry.
 
Job Summary:

As a Maintenance Technician, you’ll be responsible for directing, scheduling, implementing, evaluating, and aligning select plant and machine engineering and maintenance functions in order to obtain optimum operating efficiencies and product reliability. This role evaluates equipment performance, establishing the sequence of steps necessary to produce the items on the facility product lines. This role reviews and prioritizes projects based on resources, current methods and company requirements.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Provide Engineering counsel and leadership at all operational and plant levels.
  • Provide support to engineering activities, participates in select facilities maintenance meetings.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Implementation of select plant systems and machine maintenance (Electrical, Mechanical, and Preventative) schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations and design select plant maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve products or reduce costs; Incorporates new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Determines root causes of failures and recommends changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Review product designs for completeness.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods; Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians. Hand – off to operations.
  • Communicates manufacturing capabilities.
  • Maintain an efficient and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government and safety regulations.

About You:

  • Degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; or
  • At least 8-10 years of experience as a Plant Engineer in a food/beverage, manufacturing/production industry.
  • Comprehensive experience with printing and converting equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food manufacturing and packaging safety guidelines and regulations required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all OSHA manufacturing and production safety guidelines and regulations required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMP, GAP, FDA regulations required
  • Previous experience with SQF, GFSI, BRC and/or USDA audits desirable
  • Knowledge or familiarity with ERP software or similar system preferred but not required.
  • Quality inspection, auditing and testing experience preferred.
  • Quality Improvement, PMP and/or Six Sigma certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Knowledge of how to apply principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of goods and services.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Excellent maintenance of converting, material handling and facility related equipment (HVAC etc.)
  • Knowledge of health and safety management concerns.
  • Excellent preventative maintenance management skills.
  • Knowledge of PLC’s, HMI’s, AC and DC digital and analog drives and controls.
  • Knowledge of MSOffice with the ability to learn new software applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to demonstrate troubleshooting skills both electrical and mechanical; must be able to deal with complexities, hardware specifications, manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, review information, develop and evaluate options to complete projects using deductive reasoning.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making, while adhering to relative costs related to company budgets.
