Maintenance Technician – Job Summary:

We’re currently supporting our global manufacturing client in Winsford, Cheshire, in their search for a Maintenance Technician. The successful Maintenance Technician will be experienced in working with injection moulding machinery; however, this is not essential.

Responsibilities for Maintenance Technician:

  • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that maintenance activities are completed in the most effective manner for the benefit of the business, including but not exclusive to routine and schedule work, breakdown resolution, supply of maintenance and equipment spares, parts, tools and consumables
  • Responsible for the completion of servicing and maintenance work of machines and equipment
  • Responsible for the completion of maintenance, other reports and providing data to support monitoring and analysis of machine, equipment and resources
  • Take part in training and development activities for the maintenance team and others identified to develop cross functional skills to facilitate upskilling and flexibility across the workforce.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Directly responsible for adhering to company safety procedures when performing maintenance/repair activity on site.
  • To minimise the opportunities for accident occurrences by the use of prevention tools such as 30 second risk assessment, hazard spotting and where necessary perform thorough accident investigations in a timely manner.
  • Minimise repetitive faults/repairs to company equipment through effective fault finding and problem solving and providing data/information to identify preventative actions
  • Feed information into Asset Care to ensure that PMs can be put in place where possible to prevent repeat failures once route cause has been defined.
  • Maximise mean time between failures through robust repair and maintenance of machines
  • Maximise up time through completion and adherence of preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Minimise purchase cost of spares without compromising quality of repair.
  • Ensure that a stock of spare parts are available for routine repairs and requirement for critical spares is identified and planned observing budget constraints
  • Minimise the time taken to effect the repair by ensuring key spares used are reported
  • Ensure the delivery of preventive maintenance and breakdown activities to minimise downtime and improve efficiency

  • Take a positive and proactive approach to continuous improvement through suggesting and agreeing ideas as part of a team or individual basis.
  • Encourage contribution of ideas from the team/individuals and gives feedback in all cases in a timely manner to ensure performance is maximised.
  • Use continuous improvement tools and techniques consistently and appropriately to deliver best practice and improvement of the standard.
  • Ensuring best practice is communicated with any improvement activities developed as part of the output from CI events coordinated, monitored and adhered to across shifts.
  • To carry out any other duties, relevant to the post which may arise thus ensuring a comprehensive and flexible service to the business.
  • Mentor and train maintenance technicians and others identified as part of upskilling and flexibility schemes to ensure that they have the best available skills and knowledge to effect activities in a timely manner.

About You:

  • Numerically and literally competent
  • Time Served Apprenticeship.
  • C&G Parts 1&2
  • NVQ Level 3
  • 18th Edition desirable
  • Reading & understanding of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic & mechanical drawings
  • Hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic & mechanical knowledge (fault finding, maintenance etc).
  • PLC’s Programming & Fault finding
  • Knowledge of automated equipment
  • PC Packages
  • CNC Robotics desirable
  • Plant Services i.e. Pumps, Air Compressors & Water Chillers
  • Lifting and slinging.
  • Hand Tools
  • Basic machine shop knowledge
  • Welding (Gas & Arc)
  • Personal protective equipment applicable to the area, environment and process of work.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to continuously improve the way they work.
  • Must be professional and confidential in dealing with all employees, and have the ability to deal with difficult situations calmly and objectively.
  • Able to work well unsupervised and demonstrate initiative.
  • Confident dealing with individuals at all levels in the organisation.
  • Ability to change priorities and re-set deadlines to meet the changing needs of the line / department / internal customer.
  • Able to change direction quickly, meet deadlines etc. and maintain a stable performance whilst under pressure and / or opposition.
  • Able to prioritize own work, making choices between urgent and important and accepting responsibility for the outcomes.
  • Communicates clearly to the level of the audience, checking to ensure that the messages have been received and understood.

  • Able to coordinate the work of several Maintenance Engineers, making choices between urgent and important and accepting responsibility for the outcomes.
