Job Description

We’re supporting our client, a leading steel processing company based in Chicago, Illinois who are looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their growing team. The successful Maintenance Technician will have proficiency in electrical systems and engineering training, as well as DC Motors and Controls.

Shift Pattern:               Shift changes every 2 weeks, 1st, 2nd & 3rd (You must do all shifts)

 

Job Summary:

Our client is looking for an electrically bias Maintenance Technician who has experience and knowledge with electrical systems, preferably in the heavy manufacturing industry. Experience of automation would be beneficial.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical and electrical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Displays exceptional working knowledge of Automax, shark I/O cards and devices, as well as the relevant PLC systems and components. Also, has the ability to diagnose, repair and improve processes for all.
  • Change racks, cards and power supplies as needed to return lines to working order.
  • Fabricate parts and equipment necessary for equipment repairs.
  • Find temporary solutions to line failures until proper repairs can be made.
  • Troubleshoot and repair overhead cranes as needed. Complete monthly crane inspections and monthly crane p.m.’s.
  • Displays exceptional ability to diagnose, troubleshoot & resolve issues not previously experienced.
  • Consistently displays the ability to fabricate parts/ components for systems that provides a cost benefit over buying off the shelf items.
  • Displays a working knowledge of VFD’s, their parameters, codes, and programming specific to equipment/process.
  • Displays ability to operate machinery in lines in order to troubleshoot without an operator present.
  • Extensive vocabulary of industrial terminology.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Routinely seeks out developing issues with equipment before failure point is reached.
  • Displays exceptional active downtime prevention and active process improvements.
  • Rapidly formulates a better solution, design, process, or usage of equipment for regular and semi-regular failures or issues.
  • Regularly provides improvement solutions while rectifying a breakdown or PM event to further improve equipment/system safety, efficiency, reliability and effectiveness in production line process.
  • Displays consistent thoroughness, attention to detail, investigation and improvement of equipment being worked on.
  • Always seeks out and provides solutions for root problem/ cause rather than treat the symptoms.
  • Regularly displays acquisition of new information in regards to equipment, systems and procedures relevant to safety, quality and efficiency of the facility.
  • Displays active pursuit of innovative ideas and solutions for process improvement from sources outside of industry specific areas.
  • Consistently observes line operation and processes to stay ahead of issues and implement improvement solutions for the process.
  • Displays exceptional level of organisation, planning, and high quality execution of any given task.
  • Possible damage/ downtime to operational assets.
  • Control of repair and maintenance spend
  • Leadership role for existing maintenance staff and apprentices
  • Excellent communication skills between supervision and operations
  • Expected communications with suppliers.

 

About You:

  • Educated in Automation, HVAC, Fluid Power, Basic Electricity, Industrial Wiring, Electrical Circuits, PLC’s, Tech Math
  • Required proficiency in electrical systems
  • Knowledge in engineering training, DC Motors and Controls, AC Motors and Controls, Instrumentation
  • Heavy Manufacturing Industry experience preferred
  • Passing grade on NMP maintenance exam
  • Team Oriented
  • Self-Starter
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
