We’re supporting our client, a leading metal manufacturer based in Belmont, North Carolina who are looking for a Quality Manager to join their growing team. The successful Quality Manager will have experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment and be hands-on and detail oriented.
 
Job Summary:

As a Quality Manager, you’ll be for the overall quality of products produced by the company and for execution of the Quality Management system and leading quality department staff.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, provides leadership, directions and developmental activities for all Quality functions at plant level and including occasional interface with customers on and off site.
  • Implements and maintains ISO:9001 quality management system.
  • Implements and maintains manufacturing routings for current and new products.
  • Advises site management on process control, product and quality improvement.
  • Provides tactical support for process, product, quality initiatives and directives.
  • Directs department activities to design new equipment, modify existing designs, improve production processes, and develop test procedures.
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Employs problem solving tools such as fishbone diagrams, 5 whys, 8D, root cause and countermeasures to eliminate quality defects
  • Confers with management, operations, and maintenance staff to determine feasibility, cost effectiveness, and productivity impact on proposed quality changes.
  • Conduct quality management review meetings in accordance with ISO 9000 standards
  • Work with plant and quality leadership teams to develop forward thinking plans to grow the effectiveness of the Quality Management System
  • Schedule and conduct frequent and regular audits of raw materials, in-process products, and finished products, reporting the results and monitoring trends
  • Continually strive to prevent/reduce claims
  • Develop database and lead yield and recovery initiatives
  • Lead/champion plant problem solving events & root cause/corrective action activities
  • Embedding quality inspections into in-process work to reduce post process inspection.
  • Support process engineering functions by overseeing the preparation of process documents for designated operations in manufacturing, auditing operations for conformance to established procedures and recommending added or altered process-controls
  • Implement and utilize statistical process control (SPC) to improve manufacturing processes
  • Lead evaluation of products returned by customers to identify defects and root causes.
  • Function as a player/coach with hands on inspection and verification
  • Maintain calibration of gauges and other measurement equipment
  • Work in a safe and healthy manner, adhering to all safety rules and practices.

About You:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (desirable) preferably in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Process Engineering
  • Must have strong working knowledge of processes utilized to manufacture steel industrial products
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in steel forming or stamping environment
  • Must have strong knowledge of ISO:9001 Quality Standards
  • Problem solving skills and knowledge of problem-solving tools and methodologies
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference to practical situations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at the same time
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to understand and apply statistical data
