Tool Designer – Job Summary:
We’re supporting our client, a leading global component manufacturer based in Coventry, who are looking for a Tool Designer to join their growing team. The successful Tool Designer will have experience of polymer / mould tooling.
Salary: £38,000 – £43,000

Responsibilities:
- Working alongside an existing designers and with a small team of production engineers.
- Primary role is as a designer, from simple hand operating fixtures, to more complex automated multifunction fixtures and rubber/polymer moulding tools.
- This roll will use 3D Solidworks CAD to compile assembly and detail drawings.
- Also, to provide “day to day” Support for Assembly tooling.
- To support resolutions of manufacturing-based concerns relevant to new processes, new products, productivity, waste, quality and safety.
- Technical support for quoting new & modification of tooling and equipment. Liaising with purchasing, and face/face with suppliers.
- Supporting the needs of production engineering APQP documentation.
- To analyse and produce processing time estimates for the manufacture of future products.
- To liaise with the Maintenance Manager to reduce plant / equipment failures. To assist in the introduction / utilisation of preventative maintenance programs across all business areas.
- Support the development and transfer of new products or new processes from Development to Manufacture, including:
- Involvement in the Design & Development at the concept stage of any new components or products to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacture) principals are inherent in the NPI process.
- Work closely with the engineering and operations departments to ensure the quality and manufacturability of design meets requirements and enables successful completion of NPI projects.
- Be a leader of change; defining, developing and implementing improvement projects to meet agreed manufacturing objectives.
About You:
- Skilled in using 3D Solidworks CAD to compile assembly and detail drawings with a good knowledge of GD&T.
- To have at least 5 years experience as a designer of assembly fixtures, tooling for rubber/polymer moulding & rubber to metal bonding. A sound engineering background, as well as supporting production engineering functions.
- Experience of working in a high volume automotive or similar manufacturing environment
- A knowledge of modern manufacturing methods and techniques including hydraulic press operation & design would be an advantage.
- Computer literate, experienced in MS Word, Excel. Project and Powerpoint an advantage.
- An approved engineering qualification (degree, HNC or equivalent).
- Basic understanding of IATF16949 and APQP systems.
- Able to communicate with personnel at all levels of our business, as well as suppliers & customers.
- A reasonable level of financial and commercial awareness.
