Improving the Productivity of Employees
Looking after the wellbeing of your employees is vital to the productivity of your company.
If you have unhappy employees, they will be de motivated and their outcome will be a lot less.
On average 61% of employees had reported that they are burned out at their current job, with 31% of employees feeling high levels of stress at work.
Stressed employees are more likely to make mistakes, they won’t concentrate, put the effort in, nor will they be enjoying their job. These employees are also more likely to get sick as stress suppresses the immune system. The more stressful your work environment, the more often people will take sick days.
Though, as not all employees take a sick day when they are ill, they will come to work regardless. The term for this is ‘presenteeism’ – employees are present at work but not being productive. Unfortunately, research shows that when employees come in sick they are more likely to perform poorly and will pass their germs around, making the problem worse.
This is why more and more modern companies offer Employee Wellness Programmes. Studies have shown that these wellness programs can improve productivity by up to 11%. Good programs give employees the resources and freedom to meet their personal health goals.
We, at Willcox Matthews, offer a variety of schemes within the workplace that focus on employee wellbeing. The office is very physical exercise motivated so we have multiple competitions running through out the year to get our juices pumping! There is a constant selection of healthy (and not so healthy) treats in the office for employees to snack on throughout the day, should we need a boost. We have a selection of office-based exercises available on our shared area for anyone who is feeling stressed or sedentary during the day.
Our directors are very focused on keeping moral and good mental health high, so they have a very active open-door policy with all employees, encouraging everyone to speak up if there are issues that are troubling them, whether personal or professional.
As most employers and businesses are trying to stop employees letting their work interfere with their personal life and creating a good work life balance, the business we are in, unfortunately means that a lot of our workforce don’t get the opportunity to switch off and are usually working 24/7! We try not to encourage this, but if you want to get in touch with people or keep on searching for candidates this sometimes needs to be done outside of office hours.
The main thing is that wellness for the company and its employees should not be just a bullet point in the company policy – this needs to be something that is very much an active part of each day! All our directors and managers are firm advocates for the wellbeing of all employees and are very much active in all activities that are on offer!
