Staying motivated on your workload can be a minefield sometimes. There can be many distractions be it your colleagues / your phone / other work and you have to find a way to stay focused.
Below is a list of small activities that help maintain your focus and keep your motivation high:
- Keep a to do list
Working off a list will help organise your mind and also make sure that any new tasks are not forgotten - Clear your mind
Having too much going on in your head can be extremely overwhelming. Take 5 minutes away from your desk and take a breath - De-Clutter
Clearing your desk of any un-necessary items will help you focus on the one task at a time instead of seeing everything that needs doing - Focus on your goal
Instead of trying to achieve everything by multi-task, focus on one thing at a time. You will find that tasks are completed quicker when you have less to focus on. - Listen to music
Since WWII it has been proven that music makes you more productive whilst working. Finding a strong playlist to keep on your track will do the world of good. - Break overwhelming tasks up into smaller pieces.
If you have a large task that you have been putting off, create small, bite-sized goals within the task to make it more manageable. This will help you view it as an easily achievable task. - Set deadlines
Even though it may seem cruel setting yourself a deadline, having an open-ended task will almost definitely be seen in your mind as a reason that it doesn’t need to be done. Having a deadline will ensure that at some point, even if it is last minute, that it will get done! - Exude good vibes
Having a positive outlook when working on something should produce a positive outcome – going into a project thinking you won’t be able to achieve it will increase the chance of you not successfully completing it. - Reward yourself & celebrate wins
Whether it’s something like a snack, or a break away from the screen, or working on your preferred tasks. Each difficult task needs to have some form of incentive to get completed.
Even though work itself isn’t the most motivating of locations (for most people) having little tasks that can help you stay motivated throughout the day!
You will also find that the location can massively impact your day, some may find the peace and tranquillity of working from home or alone helps their productivity, whereas some people find being in the quiet suffocating and are more productivity with activity all around them.
Hopefully this helps, but, as always, the Willcox Matthews team are always on hand to help with any questions.
